Jókai and local knowledge collection

These documents are very valuable, most of them are irreplacable. This collection can’t be rented, readers can only use it in the library.

Jókai Collection

In 1954, on the 50. anniversary of Jókai Mór’s death, the district library took the name of Jókai Mór. The creator of the collection was Koger Tamás, the director at that time.

His collecting work included any type of literature, that included Jókai’s life and work, regardless of the type of the documents.

The use of the local knowledge collection

The local knowledge collection is specially protected, therefore it can only be used in the reading room of the library. There are no photocopies available of the collection with some rare exceptions. Readers can get detailed informations about the collection during the opening hours.

There are many document types in the collection:

Monographs of Komárom and municipality, summaries of local history, landscape works, statistical repositories, school bulletins, plant history, city guides, photo galleries, literatures, etc., all can be found in the collection.

We collect county newspapers, magazines and other periodicals that were made in the county and the city, or have local content. Issues predating 1953 are available on microfilm and can be used in the library. Readers can find old digitalized magazines from Komárom under „E-Library” since 2010.

    Booklet Catalog

Béla Hegedűs began the processing of the Local Knowledge collection in 1986. He also built the alphabetical catalog system and the specialist catalog.

Since 1996 our Library uses the Textlib Integrated Library System, which we use to process the local knowledge informations.

The old catalog system was closed in 2004, visitors can use the electronic catalog to find information.
